SCTT STAGE MAKE-UP GUIDELINES & NECESSARIES
MAKE UP KITS are available for purchase
student kit $25; crème pro $85
1. all actors need to provide their own stage make up … street make up is not acceptable; sharing is not acceptable
2. SPECIALTY MAKE UP: TBD by Michael at, if not before, make-up design workshop
3. It is recommended that you not share makeup for health reasons; all Sol Children will be required to have their own make-up kit; we recommend Ben Nye, Mehron or Graftobian makeup. Don’t forget essentials like powder puffs, sponges, and brushes. All costume stores carry make-up kits. We request that you not use street make up as it doesn’t play well under stage lighting. We have kits available for purchase … there are two different prices for two different kits. The student make-up kit has everything a young actor needs; the crème kit will last for many productions and is suitable for all theatre experiences.
4. Use a foundation that matches your skin tone, or is just one tone darker.
5. Blend all makeup up, out, and away from the center of the face.
6. Always makeup your eyes since they are the actor’s most expressive facial feature.
7. As a general rule, use brown eyeliner, not black.
8. Use lip coloring sparingly, if at all. Try to keep foundation off of your lips.
9. After applying makeup, you need to powder. Use only loose powder, never cake powder, unless the shade is either translucent or skin tone.
10. It is recommended that you store your makeup in a cool place or a refrigerator.
11. Makeup and costumes do not mix. Make sure you wash your hands after applying makeup.
12. Specialty kits will be provided to characters requiring special make up … SEE #2 ABOVE
13. Allow yourself plenty of time before dress rehearsal to experiment.
14. ALL actors need to learn to apply their own makeup.
15. Each actor should provide their own:
· make up and applicators (brushes, sponges, etc.)
· baby wipes (each actor please bring in at least one pack)
· a personal mirror (can be found at Target or any drug store)
· an old towel and towel (a hand towel would be fine)
· old button front shirt or cover up of some sort
· a nude leotard/body suit for under all girls’ costumes; boys: white briefs and white boxers if necessary
· headband (guys and gals!)
A COSTUME GUIDELINES WILL BE SENT OUT SOON RE: TIGHTS/SHOES ETC.
